Bogota: City of the Lost (2025) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
The film opens in 1997 when South Korea went bankrupt. Many families were on the streets after losing their money. Kook-hee and his family moved to Bogota. At the airport, Kook-hee’s father, Geun Tae, talks to Sergeant Park, Geun Tae’s army buddy, now a powerful man in Bogota. On their way to meet Sergeant Park, a man on a motorcycle steals a bag from Geun Tae. Seeing this, Kook-hee chases after the man but soon gets tired of running and gives up the chase. When the family meets Sergeant Park, Park advises Kook-hee never to chase after anyone if robbed as the person will kill you.
The Koreans selling clothes in San Andresito import clothes from Pyeonghwa Market in South Korea. To get the goods safely, one must have connections with Colombia’s corrupt customs department. Since Sergeant Park’s father-in-law works in customs, anyone who needs to bring goods from Korea has to be on Park’s good side. To survive in Bogota, Geun Tae needs to work. When Park introduces the family to Lucia (Park’s wife/boss), Lucia thinks Geun Tae is old and Kook-hee should work. For the sake of his family, Kook-hee agrees to work for Lucia.
How does Kook-hee meet Soo-young?
Soon, Kook-hee becomes an errand boy for Lucia, helping with the goods. Meanwhile, Geun Tae picks fights with the other Korean expats and becomes distant with them all. In 2000, Little Park was mad at Soo-young for asking for a convoy, so Park asked Little Park to go and keep an eye on Soo-young if it bothered him so much. There is a commotion as the cops drag Geun Tae away, so Park helps him. At that moment, Park realizes something and takes Kook-hee for a walk. There, Kook-hee gets a glimpse of Park’s world. The first person Kook-hee sees is Alejandro, the head of the Colombia Merchant’s Association. Both Alejandro and Park are business partners.

Now, Park tells Kook-hee that he is different because he is loyal and can be trusted. With that in mind, Kook-hee is sent to Soo-young to transport goods. Here, Kook-hee’s transportation partner is Miguel. One would need to cross customs to avoid rebels while transporting goods. This requires a certain level of expertise. The person who had that expertise is Soo-young. One percent of the goods are declared to get through customs, and the officers are given bribes for smooth transport. Once, while transporting the goods, Miguel and Kook-hee were a little away from Soo-young.
What wish does Park have for Kook-hee?
At the checkpost, the officers demand documents from Soo-young, so he asks Miguel to stop over for an hour until things are sorted. After a while, a police car approaches Miguel’s truck, and they start checking the goods. Immediately, Kook-hee informs Soo-young about the situation. When the cops want Kook-hee to get out of the truck, he starts driving the truck away in a panic. The cops chase after Kook-hee. The truck’s tire is shot with a bullet, and it stops. The only thing Kook-hee can think of is to be loyal to Park, so he grabs whatever goods he can and starts running. It was in vain, as Kook-hee was caught and put behind bars.

Thanks to Park’s connections in the customs, Kook-hee can walk out of prison easily. The expats have a party that night, and Kook-hee observes everyone there. Among them is Dr. Hong, an acupuncturist who smuggles emeralds to make more money. A little later, a fight breaks out between Soo-young and Little Park, so Park asks everyone to leave the party. That night, Park tells Kook-hee that he needs to survive and go to Zone 6 from Zone 1, as Zone 6 is where the rich live. Soon, Kook-hee becomes close to Soo-young’s men as he has been working with Soo-young for a long time.
Why new product is Soo-young selling?
By 2002, Soo-young and Kook-hee become close. A fight ensues when Soo-young and the group visit Little Park’s bar. One of the men pulls out a gun, so Little Park has to intervene. By then, Jae Ung proposes his business and asks Kook-hee to help him. The gun that the goon pulled out was thankfully unloaded. The next day, Park sends Kook-hee to Soo-young with a loaded gun to give to Soo-young. During their conversation, Soo-young tells Kook-hee that Park uses people. Meanwhile, Little Park learns that Park has deliberately sent Kook-hee to Soo-young to test him. Instead of keeping the gun, Soo-young asks Kook-hee to hold on to it as it may come in handy someday.
There is a new product that Soo-young wants to sell: parkas, and Park is not very happy with it. Park asks Kook-hee’s help. There will be boxes with orange stickers on them, including Soo-young’s parkas. Kook-hee’s job is to bring those boxes to Park. During the transportation, Kook-hee takes a truck and leaves. Fortunately, Miguel was instructed to pay no heed to this act. When Park gets the boxes, it turns out it is only Park’s goods, not Soo-young’s. By then, Soo-young made a deal with Kook-hee, so the stickers were tampered with. Since Soo-young’s business is now booming, it infuriates Alejandro.
Why does Kook-hee chase Geun Tae?
Although Park was initially unhappy with Soo-young’s business, Park came around after Soo-young started giving a large share of the profits to Park. Soon, Kook-hee moved to Zone 3 and bought a house there. In a hotel somewhere, Soo-young expresses his desire to build a shopping mall one day. Kook-hee hopes he is a part of Soo-young’s dream. As a gift, Soo-young gives Kook-hee his expensive watch. Meanwhile, Alejandro bribes Carlos from the customs office to ensure Soo-young’s business goes under. While transporting goods, the customs officials seize all the goods.
It’s a crisis, so Park calls for a meeting with the team to find a solution. To get out of the mess, Jae Ung proposes going to Venezuela, which overflows with smuggled goods. Unfortunately, it is a rebel territory. So Kook-hee volunteers to go to Venezuela alone. Everyone pitches in money to bring some goods, and Park entrusts the cash with Kook-hee. At home, Geun Tae rushes to Kook-hee’s room and fights Kook-hee to take the money. Immediately, Kook-hee chases after Geun Tae, who works with another woman. A bike abruptly comes in Kook-hee’s way, slowing him down. At that time, a shot is fired, and the woman takes the bag with cash and leaves with a man. Because of this, Geun Tae is dead.
How does Kook-hee outsmart Alejandro?
Sadly, the Korean expats are demanding money from Kook-hee, who promises to bring it to them somehow. During Geun Tae’s funeral, Soo-young gives money to Kook-hee and asks him to leave Bogota as it is dangerous for him here. At that moment, Jae Ung tells Kook-hee that the customs sent all their products to Alejandro’s warehouse. That night, Kook-hee pretends to be Alejandro’s man and sneaks into the warehouse. Unfortunately, the goon realizes something is fishy, so Kook-hee fights the goons there. Soon, Miguel arrives with the trucks to take the products, helping Kook-hee.
After the incident, Alejandro physically attacks Park, assuming it was Park’s order. On the way, Kook-hee realizes someone is chasing him on a motorcycle. Although Kook-hee tries to avoid the man, Kook-hee gets caught, and the man is about to shoot Kook-hee. On the other hand, Alejandro asks Park to hand over Kook-hee, and Alejandro will forget about the incident. At that moment, Kook-hee walks in, covered in bruises. When Alejandro and Park pretend this is not a big deal, Kook-hee tells Alejandro that he has paid Sicario (assassin) double the amount he paid. As soon as Kook-hee says that, Sicario shoots Alejandro dead.

Why is the Korean expat community mad at Kook-hee?
Now, the sicario has his gun on Park’s head but does not shoot. So Kook-hee says he needs to survive to move to zone 6. After Alejandro’s death, Carlos has got a promotion. So Jae Ung meets Carlos to bribe him. More debts are cleared as Jae Ung helps Kook-hee kill Geun Tae’s killer. Three years later, Carlos announces an anti-smuggling act, making the expats fearful. When Jae Ung, Soo-young, and Little Park meet Kook-hee, he indirectly suggests accepting the anti-smuggling act. This does not sit well with the group. At this point, Kook-hee is the head of the smuggling ex-pats, which infuriates Soo-young.
That night, the Korean’s warehouse is raided, and the police are near the shops. The Korean expats protest against the police, and Kook-hee tries to calm the situation. So Carlos gives Kook-hee a chance but the Koreans are against Kook-hee’s ideology. Later, Kook-hee meets Park and asks him to set up a meeting with the expats. Meanwhile, Soo-young sees the shopping center’s model. When Kook-hee calls the shopping center their idea, it makes Soo-young mad, and he slaps Kook-hee multiple times before leaving. During the meeting, Kook-hee says they will only sell legal goods in the future, making Little Park mad.
Bogota: City of the Lost (2025) Movie Ending Explained:
Kook-hee says if they are raided and goods are lost, Kook-hee will compensate for them. Despite taking responsibility, the expats are not on Kook-hee’s side. The next day, Kook-hee is near his car, and Miguel presses a button on the key to unlock the car, and the car explodes, injuring Kook-hee. Immediately, Soo-young and the others plan to leave Bogota as Kook-hee will be suspicious of them all. After recovering, Park drives Kook-hee around in a secured vehicle. Now, Soo-young visits Dr. Hong to smuggle some emeralds as he needs to leave Bogota. At that time, Kook-hee calls Soo-young and says he knows Soo-young did not have anything to do with the explosives, as Kook-hee himself was the one who planted the bomb. It was a message for people not to attempt to harm Kook-hee.
Hearing this, Soo-young gets mad and starts abusing Kook-hee. At that time, Dr. Hong puts a needle in Soo-young’s head and kills him. In the office, Park admits that he never thought Kook-hee would survive and move to Zone 6. They now head to the outskirts to bury Soo-young. On their way, Park takes a break to pee when a man arrives and shoots at Kook-hee. As the glass is bulletproof, it does not harm Kook-hee. Now Park tells Kook-hee that he is a little too different and a jagged stone needs to be chiseled. The glass is lowered, and Park asks Kook-hee to meet Alejandro’s eldest son. Before the man can kill Kook-hee, Kook-hee kills Alejandro’s eldest son and Park as well. From an elevated place, Kook-hee looks at Bogota’s cityscape.
Towards the end, Kook-hee gives Soo-young one chance to return to Kook-hee and work with him. However, Soo-young decided to cuss at Kook-hee, prompting Soo-young’s demise. Everything was pre-planned by Kook-hee. The last scene is similar to what we see in the beginning. At first, Kook-hee was a simple, fearful immigrant looking over Bogota. Now, Kook-hee is the king of the Korean expat community. Although Kook-hee began his career with smuggled goods, he intends to do legal business. With Soo-young and Park dead, Kook-hee may open his shopping mall and sell legal goods. This will also help the Korean expats build a secure and stable life.
