DOUBLE CHOCOLATE MUFFINS (COSTCO COPYCAT RECIPE) — These decadent chocolate muffins, loaded with chocolate chips, taste just like the giant chocolate muffins from Costco!

Double Chocolate Muffins (Costco Copycat Recipe) (1)

You need to know, right off the bat, that I feel slightly guilty calling these muffins. If you’ve ever had Costco Double Chocolate Muffins, you know what I mean.

They aren’t fooling anybody. Because these so-calledmuffins are actually rich, moist, chocolate cupcakes….without frosting.

And of course, there’s the fact that they’re made with a chocolate cake mix. It’s a dead giveaway. But if we call them muffins, we can eat them for breakfast, and I’m good with that.

Whatever you choose to call them they are great for after-school snacks or breakfast on the go!

I like to use mini chocolate chips, but the regular size will work too. Either way, these are some of the tastiest chocolate “muffins” you’ll ever try!

Double Chocolate Muffins (Costco Copycat Recipe) (2)

Costco muffins are enormous, so I elected to make mine in a regular sized muffin tin. I will say–and my family agreed–that these do taste very much like the Costco variety.

I get about two dozen regular sized muffins from this recipe. If you use a Costco-sized muffin tin, you’ll get about a dozen muffins.

My youngest, who isn’t really a fan of chocolate or sweets, was pretty sure he wasn’t going to care for these muffins. But since trying them, he’s had one for breakfast every day since!

I, on the other hand, new I would love this Costco Copycat Double Chocolate Muffin recipe, and I was not disappointed. And if you just can’t finish off two dozen muffins, these freeze beautifully too!

Ah, those Costco “muffins” are totally my fave. This copy cat recipe sounds amazing!! And this way, I can make them in a reasonable sized pan as opposed to the massive ones Costco does. Pinned!

I just made these and they smell amazing! My daughter had one warm from the oven and thought they were delicious. I can’t handle the sugar in a full muffin so I made 12 muffins and 21 muffin tops. They all came out perfect!

Just decided not to make these after I bought all the ingredients…the majority of your comments are not about how the recipe turned out but people saying how good they look. I want to hear about the recipe. You should only post those

This is why I *always* read the comments before I even save a recipe much less buy ingredients for and/or make any recipe on Pinterest. Unless 90% of comments are strictly negative (i.e., fell apart, tasted too dry, took longer than stated time to cook, etc ), I still make the recipe for myself & form my own opinion & not just because people described the looks of the dish only. Life happens & maybe they weren’t able to taste the recipe yet, waiting for the 10 mins in the recipe to cool. but still wanted to comment??? Because, you know, Life Happens.

I just finished making these to accompany the poem “If you Give a Mom a Muffin” for our eighth graders to sell at their mother’s day bake sale and I have to confess… I had to try one to validate the incredible smell. So glad I did! They turned out terrific. I used Nestle mini chips as well as some full size dark chocolate chips. I filled the cups to the 3/4+ mark and they came out with a nice little dome on top after 18 minutes of bake time. The recipe made 25 muffins. Thanks for a recipe I am sure to make again (many times).

I’ve made these are they are amazing! Big hit with my adult kids too. I made some full sized muffins and some muffin tops. I’m sugar sensitive and even the muffin tops were too much for me. But, they are delicious!

If the cake mix already has pudding in it, do we need to add more?

Great recipe! Just made them today. I used a cup of plain apple sauce instead of oil and eggs. I also used plain yogurt instead of sour cream. They were delicious and very chocolatey.

Works great as a chocolate cake mix muffin with chocolate pudding and chocolate chips. Does not work well as a strawberry cake mix muffin with strawberry pudding and white chips (and dried Valencia orange peel instead of cinnamon.) It comes out too cake-like as the strawberry variation. With the chocolate you can still pretend it’s not cake for some reason. (Side note, the chocolate not only freezes well, they taste great sliced straight from the freezer.)

Just have to say, I just made these. It’s 10.30pm on November 23rd 2022. They’re objectively great. I’m across the pond in the UK, so sourced our versions of the ingredients (i.e. Angel’s Delight for the instant chocolate pudding), and it still came out great. I think it’s the devil’s food cake mix.

I have to say though, it’s been a while since I tasted the costco chocolate muffin, so I may not remember its taste EXACTLY. But, this is a great chocolate muffin. So if you’re in doubt about that, don’t be.

These came out pretty well – mine did sink a little bit, and they’re kind of “custardy”. I don’t know how to describe it, it’s not an unpleasant texture – still tastes pretty good – but probably caused by the pudding (I’ve never put pudding in a muffin or a cake, and I usually don’t use packaged stuff, it could be that I’m accustomed to stuff with a different texture altogether). It’s like dense but still spongy and has got some spring to it. It’s still a pretty good recipe, though, I would make them again.

I used Duncan Hines cake mix, Jello pudding mix (3.9 oz), whole milk and full fat sour cream. Different brands or fat contents might affect the texture, too.
